Innovation has always been the main theme in Cummins' nearly 100 year history. Cummins has always been committed to R&D investment, with annual R&D investment exceeding $700 million for many consecutive years. Cummins is the most innovative company in the field of diesel engines, with over 1500 valid patents. This makes Cummins a world leading engine design and manufacturer, continuously driving technological innovation throughout the industry.

The acquisition of this patent is inseparable from the joint efforts of the Cummins R&D team. At present, the patent has been successfully applied to Cummins' latest ISG heavy-duty engine platform.

Cummins ISG Heavy Engine Platform

The G in ISG, which symbolizes "revolution" in Chinese, demonstrates its technological innovation. This model takes customer needs as input and drives engine design. More than 100 R&D personnel from countries such as China, the United States, Europe, India, and Mexico have worked together for over 5 years of development, with over 60000 hours of bench testing and over 6 million kilometers of actual road testing. Once launched, it gained market recognition and became a new generation of Cummins classic engines.

At present, the ISG engine combines multiple Cummins patents and 29 key component patents, making it the true "king of patents" for engines. Below, we will introduce several main core patented technologies of ISG:

Innovative patented technology for wet cylinder liners

This is the patent obtained by the Vice President of Cummins Group just mentioned. Replaceable wet cylinder liners effectively improve engine reliability and reduce maintenance frequency. The lightest in weight and compact in appearance, significantly improving load-bearing capacity and transportation efficiency. The modular integrated design significantly reduces the frequency of faults and achieves excellent reliability.

Simplified and efficient machine patent design

ISG adopts a leading modular design concept, which reduces the number of parts by nearly 50% compared to traditional diesel engines, improves reliability, and facilitates maintenance. The reduction in the number of parts improves the reliability of the product while saving 50% of maintenance time. The self weight of 792 kilograms is reduced by 30% compared to other competitors, but it can achieve a power output of 490 horsepower. The ISG engine creates the highest specific power. Customers can easily carry more goods.

XPI ultra-high pressure fuel injection technology can provide a fuel injection pressure of 2000 bar at various speeds, and precise electronic control can provide multi-level injection in each combustion cycle, which will improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Low speed and high torque provide unparalleled power performance, achieving maximum production efficiency. At the same time, the XPI ultra-high pressure system, combined with the ISG precision cylinder design, reduces engine noise by 50% and significantly improves the engine's cold start ability.

The engine braking designed by Cummins combines exhaust rocker arm technology, which increases the power of in cylinder pressure braking by 50% compared to the most widely used in the market. The ISG engine braking system allows drivers to better control their downhill speed and drive more safely. The braking system effectively extends the braking life, reduces maintenance costs, and reduces fault time, with high reliability.

Innovative cooling and lubrication patented technology

ISG's lubrication and cooling system is highly integrated into the precision cylinder block, reducing system pressure loss, improving cooling and lubrication efficiency, and prolonging engine life. This technology effectively shortens the waterway path and improves cooling performance. The lubrication and cooling systems are highly integrated, adopting a low-pressure reduction design to reduce kinetic energy consumption. The power consumption of this engine's water pump operation is only half of that of a 6-liter displacement engine. The efficient intake and exhaust system reduces the power required for air operation, and the weight of internal components is low, reducing power consumption.

LBSC technology is a technology specifically designed to help drivers achieve maximum engine efficiency. The engine can accurately detect the vehicle's load and operating conditions based on its own power output and vehicle speed changes. Utilize these two types of information, combined with the driver's driving habits, to automatically adjust the engine to always operate in the most fuel-efficient speed range. For example, in flat or downhill road conditions where high engine speeds are not required, LBSC will automatically limit the allowable engine speed range to achieve maximum fuel efficiency. On uphill road conditions, the engine needs to achieve maximum performance and operate flexibly. LBSC will promptly capture these vehicle demands and provide the driver with a complete range of engine speeds accordingly.

ISG Engine Special Application Nanonet? The patented Frega fuel filter extends the maintenance cycle of the engine fuel filter. Nanonet? The fuel filter protects the engine by continuously filtering out particles as small as 5 microns in the fuel. By adding strong synergistic agents to the oil filter and special engine oil, combined with imported nanofilter paper, the replacement mileage of the oil filter and ISG special engine oil can be increased to 100000 kilometers. The extended maintenance cycle reduces the downtime required by users for maintenance, greatly improving vehicle attendance and operational efficiency.

Ultra low emission technology creates a green future

Cummins' unique intake air treatment technology, perfectly combined with advanced in cylinder combustion and selective catalytic reduction post-treatment technology, can achieve low emissions of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides, ensuring compliance with the strictest emission requirements. ISG meets the emission standards of Euro IV/Country IV and Euro V/Country V, and can upgrade Euro VI and off road Phase IV technologies on the same platform, resulting in a long product lifecycle.
