Cummins diesel generator oil pressure is too low

Experience tells us that there are three main reasons for low oil pressure in diesel generators, that is, insufficient oil output of oil pump, blocked oil filter and damaged oil return valve. The three reasons are analyzed as follows.

1. Insufficient oil output of oil pump

Diesel generator oil pump has two kinds of gear pump and rotor pump. Some gear pumps, the pump cover and pump body surface roughness is very low, the original design does not add gasket, if the maintenance of their own paper pad, increase the gear end clearance, but will reduce the amount of oil pump. But there is a gasket on the joint surface of the pump and the cylinder block. If it is leaked, the pressure oil from the oil pump will leak out from there, resulting in a drop in oil pressure. Some rotor pump, the outer rotor side has chamfering, the other side has no chamfering, if installed in reverse, the oil output can be reduced by 40% to 60%.

In addition, the radial and end clearance of the gear or rotor due to wear and tear is too large, will lead to the adverse consequences of reducing the amount of oil and oil pressure drop out of cummins generator set. After repair, the oil pump should be put on the test bench to adjust the opening pressure of the pressure limiting valve to keep it between 0.5-0.7mpa. If the pressure is too high, it will accelerate the oil pump wear; If the pressure is too low, it will cause the main oil channel pressure to drop. When installing the oil pump, it should be filled with oil first, so as not to absorb the air in the pump. The connection between the oil pump and the oil suction disc must be sealed, if the leakage will reduce the oil output of the oil pump.

2. The oil filter of the diesel generator set is blocked

When the oil filter is blocked and the oil cannot pass smoothly, the safety valve on the base of the filter will be pushed open, so that the oil directly enters the main oil channel without filtering. But if the safety valve opening pressure is too high and can not be opened in time, it will increase the leakage of the oil pump, and reduce the oil supply to the main oil channel, and the oil pressure will decrease accordingly. The oil filter should be maintained on time, and the opening pressure of the safety valve should be adjusted to 0.35-0.45mpa.

In addition, if the safety valve spring is aging, the valve seat and steel ball are not tightly closed, the oil will leak a lot from this, and cause the oil in the oil pan to bubble. At this time, the oil ruler can be seen covered with foam.

3. The oil return valve is damaged

If the main oil return valve spring fatigue softening or improper adjustment, seat and steel ball matching surface wear or stuck by dirt and closed loosely, the oil return amount will be significantly increased, the main oil pressure will also decline.
